Mama Facts

Vivian Rose.Viv Pic

A simply complicated anecdote about life, love and the pursuit of peace of mind.

A twenty-something mother to –

Ethan: 6 years old, in part-time Waldorf-esque kindergarten, talkative, friend to all, major cuddler, loves all things cooking, plays a mean game of go-fish.
and
Verity: 2.5 year old daughter, homebirthed, nursing, shy, opinionated, high pitched screamer, brown eyed olive-skinned beauty…

Some other tidbits about this blog writer:

I think everything is better used, but I draw the line at food and underwear. I adore old things, natural materials, and nature inspired anything. I love hobbies, and given the resources I would want to learn almost anything I could get my hands on in this lifetime.

I have an insatiable appetite for life, (hence the name “Vivian” I like to think.) I love: reading non-fiction, writing, knitting, painting, films, music, gardening, homemaking, cooking, children, animals, cycling, thrifting, healing arts, yoga, and nutrition: nourishing/traditional foods.

After growing up in Florida, I got my degree in Journalism and moved to Portland, OR for a few years – LOVED IT – but left to find a more affordable small city to put down roots. After a year in Fayetteville, AR, we moved in March 2011 to Columbia, MO, where hubby works in as grocery manager at Natural Grocers and we live in a “tiny house” .5 mile away. I dream of a day that I am running a highly efficient urban mini-farm in my backyard and adding value to the community around me in all that I do. In the meantime, we have backyard chickens, strive to tend a garden each year, and spend as much time as we can learning lost skills and building on our knowledge and experience. Our family goal is to live more simply, to live below our means, to learn to do without so that we may have the time, energy, and resources to help others instead.

I work from home, part-time, as a virtual assistant doing a large variety of marketing, promotions, design, desktop publishing, and website management related tasks. I am going back to school for my masters in Education, and plan to become an educator within the Waldorf pedagogy in the future, so that I can best support my family and children through a career highly integrated with my life as a mother – my top priority.

In a nutshell: I value simple living, balance, love and faith. I try to reduce my dependence on things that promise to add convenience to my life yet cause more stress in the long run. I tend to be snobby about being anti-consumerist and passionate about Creation Care, but I yearn to live out my ideals with grace and humility. I love Jesus with all my heart and I believe the purpose of life on this rock is to become more like Christ, no matter who you are and what you believe, what you read as your sacred book, or the color of your skin, or the preference of your partner.

I love my family and friends, and I’m striving to step outside my own life more often to be involved with the struggles and triumphs of those around me.

Trying to take the rest one day at time. I have a LOT to learn.
