Mama for Obama 2008
I’m just wondering why no one thought to call me to come into the studio for this ad? You know, I’ve got mad cross-cultural appeal too!

These are my findings on the path of motherhood. This blog is for all practicing the balancing act, which for me includes homeschooling and working from home, and extends to the evolution of myself in the context of this world through yoga, knitting/creative arts, marital connection, community and faith. These things bring me joy, healing and purpose, (but not without frustration and pain sometimes... and I can throw a fit like the best of 'em.)

What makes people smart, curious, alert, observant, competent, confident, resourceful, persistent – in the broadest and best sense, intelligent- is not having access to more and more learning places, resources, and specialists, but being able in their lives to do a wide variety of interesting things that matter, things that challenge their ingenuity, skill, and judgement, and that make an obvious difference in their lives and the lives of people around them.

You guys were so awesome and yes that scene was my favorite and made me yell a little too loud.
Are you really ready for government-run healthcare? Canadians come here for medical procedures, and Europeans wait weeks, if not months, to get a catscan. How do we pull our troops out of Iraq, and what’s going to happen there when we’re not there? I believe that it would be a breeding ground for Islamic terrorists. Right now they are reportedly fleeing the country for places like Africa and the Afghanistan/Pakistan border where they can regroup. Has everyone forgotten 9/11 and the innocent Americans who were murdered? I am not a fear-mongerer. I do want my love ones protected as best we can. I do want healthcare for all, but I also want CHOICE and not BIG Government. Obams is right, ofcourse, about needing CHANGE, but what kind of change is he for? Hope and unity are inspiring. Are we really being honest with ourselves about our circumstances? I haven’t heard any explanation from him as to how he’s going to bring this Utopia into reality. Shiny words and trendy ads may give us a warm fuzzy feeling, but this isn’t a drams show – this is the future of America. This election is crucial. There will certainly be change, but not all change is for the better, so be careful what you wish for. No offense to anyone, just offering my opinion. I thought the ad was beautiful, just need many questions answered from Obama. Looking forward to the GOP/Democratic debates if he beats Hillary.
Wow, Rach! lol
I think this time around, when I really think about the issues that are a priority to me, I have to conclude that what I pick up from the democratic conversations are more in my realm of home base. When the republicans have been campaigning, 99% of what I hear is war/Iraq/security/strong nation stuff and that’s just not what I’m thinking about. I have had two brothers in Iraq, one is still there to my knowledge, and no, I haven’t forgotten 9/11 (though some might say the parallels between Sept. 11th and Iraq are fewer and farther between than we might like to correlate). I like that Obama is NOT for universal healthcare mandatory by the government, but rather for children only because they have no choice and should have coverage. I heard some one use the line, “America needs to decide whether they want to be an empire or a republic” and that resonated with me. Perhaps if we were a little more diplomatic in foreign policies we would have more allies overseas. As it is, we seem to be so afraid of being “weak” as a nation and vulnerable to attack that we have spent oodles of money on funding a war while families like mine are unemployed (thank you, economy), uninsured, and unable to own a home. I don’t stay up at night worrying about terrorism, but I do stay up thinking about not being able to afford a doctor if Lil’ E gets sick, or with pain from wisdom teeth I cannot afford to pull, or wondering how my husband’s career can recover (start!) from this latest lay off.
As I write this, Hubby’s got “Hotel Rowanda” on in the background. It certainly is scary stuff, to even imagine being in a country where there is such a lack of government defense to prevent such horrors from taking place on home land. So I’m not down playing that, AT ALL. But if I had to pick a priority out of all the issues, national security or the war in Iraq would not be number one for me and millions of low and middle-income families suffering.
I also believe to some extent that this country’s people will move it the direction they want it to go- if Obama lacks “experience” but can rally conservatives and liberals onto unifying ground, it just might be the kind of “hope” we need to BE the change.
I’m afraid people in the Pac NW will be throwing themselves off buildings if we elect another republican, lol! My hope is that who ever becomes our next president will be the catalyst for positive reform, not another wedge between left vs right, rep vs dem, lib vs con, so forth and so on.
