Getting Out of the Way
There are times when, as a mother of a seventh month old, I attempt to demonstrate the correct way to, say, pile stacking cups one atop the other, and in response my young son continues to grab at the cups, getting his hands in the middle of what I’m doing- paying no attention whatsoever to my teaching. Many factors contribute to this constant frustration of my lesson, but the most probable cause is that he is simply not developed enough to sit back and watch me. He instead thinks that the proper thing must be to snatch the colorful “thingy’s” vying for his attention and cannot comprehend that I am making an effort to show him a far greater game.
It makes me think of all the lessons that God has tried to teach me. It is just so tempting to reach out and do what I want to with all the colorful pieces of His plan, getting my little fumbling arms all in His way. He patiently continues to display the appropriate activity until on some magical day it finally occurs to me that perhaps there is a method to what His fatherly hands are crafting, and if I would only sit back and watch for a moment, I may be able to learn something fascinating!
